The trademark provides protection against the use or loading of the logo, trademark, their graphic representations of the company and the like of the company (including TATRA TRUCKS) - so it is of fundamental importance and provides the expression with legal protection against its misuse.
The TATRA mark was first registered in 1933 as a combined trademark for refrigeration equipment in connection with a licensing agreement for the production and distribution of refrigerators with the German company Alfred Teves Maschinen und Armaturen-Fabrik G.m.b.H., Frankfurt a. M. (abbreviated as Ate). The word TATRA in a circular field was supplemented by the word Ate written in white on a black rectangular field. The horizontal hatching of the circular field indicated the intention to use the mark in the blue color of this field, which is also confirmed by the preserved original labels of refrigeration products.
In 1934, after the presentation of the revolutionary aerodynamic passenger car Tatra 77 at the Berlin Motor Show, the company Závody Tatra filed an application for national registration of a separate word trademark TATRA in the Czechoslovak Republic. It was registered on September 3, 1934. In the autumn of the same year, an application for international registration of the same trademark was filed with the International Office of Industrial Property in Bern. And although it was not a simple matter compared to the national one, the registration was completed on March 5, 1935.
On September 9, 1935, the company Závody Tatra filed an application for a combined trademark TATRA in a circle – it was registered in black and white, with white lettering on a black background. In accordance with the interpretations of the time, such a design covered any color combination of light lettering on a darker background. The graphic design of the word TATRA was somewhat different from earlier trademarks.
In 1992, the TATRA trademark was declared a well-known trademark by the Industrial Property Office.
