NATIONAL CULTURAL MONUMENT
SLOVENSKÁ STRELA
Right next to the TATRA Truck Museum, a true gem awaits – the legendary Slovenská strela, a national cultural monument and symbol of the golden era of Czechoslovak railway engineering.
The Slovenská strela, an elegant four-axle motor coach built in 1936 at TATRA in Kopřivnice, was produced in only two units. One of these—preserved to this day—can be admired here in person.
Known under the factory designation Tatra T 68, it raced the Bratislava–Prague route at speeds that were astonishing for its time. On its inaugural run on July 13, 1936, it completed the journey with a single stop in Brno in 4 hours and 51 minutes. By 1938, it had improved its record to an incredible 4 hours and 18 minutes—a benchmark not surpassed until seventy years later by the modern Pendolino train.
